The week-long sports festival organized by the BJP Sports Cell aims to promote youth talent and foster national development.
CHANDIGARH — The highly anticipated “Khelo Chandigarh Games 2026” commenced with immense grandeur and vibrant energy today at the Gymnasium Hall of Panjab University, Sector-14. Organized by the Sports Cell of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandigarh Pradesh, the multi-sport event brings together the region’s finest young talent.

Chandigarh Pradesh In-charge and Ghaziabad Member of Parliament Atul Garg officially inaugurated the prestigious tournament. To mark the commencement, Garg lit the ceremonial torch amid thunderous applause, filling the arena with a strong sense of patriotism and sportsmanship.
Addressing the massive gathering of athletes and spectators, MP Atul Garg highlighted the transformative power of sports on youth.
“Sports not only strengthen physical fitness but also develop discipline, leadership qualities, confidence, and team spirit among youth,” Garg stated. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are being made to promote sports culture across the nation.”

Furthermore, Garg urged the young participants to view sports as a definitive pathway to lifelong success rather than a mere competition.
Several prominent dignitaries attended the opening ceremony to support the initiative. Notable guests included BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jitender Pal Malhotra, Panjab University Vice Chancellor Renu Vig, and Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi.
Jitender Pal Malhotra emphasized the party’s dedication to nurturing young talent while addressing prevailing societal issues.
“The objective of Khelo Chandigarh Games 2026 is to provide a positive direction to the youth,” Malhotra explained. “We want to offer a platform to budding talent and inspire them towards building a healthy India, while keeping them away from social evils like drug abuse.”

Meanwhile, a captivating march past by the athletes holding the ceremonial torch emerged as the main attraction of the day. The sheer discipline and confidence of the participants created an inspirational atmosphere for everyone present.
According to Sports Cell Convener Prabhjeet Lamba, the mega event has drawn an overwhelming response from the student community. More than 2,000 players are currently participating in various sports disciplines. The grand sports festival will run until June 1, giving local youth an unprecedented platform to showcase their skills and win top honors.
