Suresh Rana Urges Chandigarh Mayor to Protect Temples, Calls for Permanent Solution
Chandigarh, 19 June
In a strong appeal to safeguard religious heritage, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Punjab’s Head of Public Relations, Suresh Rana, met with the Mayor of Chandigarh and urged him to halt the demolition of temples across the city. Rana requested that the temples be preserved in their current state and that the Municipal Corporation find a permanent and respectful resolution regarding these sacred sites.
The mayor assured Rana that no action would be taken against temples, recognizing their deep religious and cultural significance as symbols of Sanatan Dharma. Discussions will be held to explore appropriate solutions in line with public sentiment.

Rana emphasized that temple committees in Chandigarh are willing to pay for the land to regularize their premises and prevent further demolition. “This approach would not only protect places of worship but also serve as an additional revenue source for the Municipal Corporation,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to the mayor for his prior action in stopping demolition drives at Ram Darbar, Mauli Jagran, Sector 45, and other locations, which prevented damage to important religious sites.
