Held in Mator village, the initiative educates farmers, women, and youth on quality standards, consumer safety, and rural empowerment.
Kaithal, June 25:
In a significant step toward rural outreach, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Haryana Branch Office, conducted a Gram Chaupal in Mator village (Kaithal) under the theme “From Standards to Fields”. The event aimed to raise awareness among rural communities about the importance of Indian standards in agriculture, household goods, and consumer safety.

The program commenced with a welcome address by the village Sarpanch, setting the tone for an interactive session focused on quality, safety, and informed decision-making.
Ms. Aarti Chaudhary, Standards Promotion Officer, BIS Haryana, explained the purpose of the Chaupal. She highlighted the significance of consumer rights, the dangers of substandard products, and how lack of awareness can result in economic losses. Villagers were taught how to identify fake goods and were guided on the process for lodging consumer complaints.
Mr. Saurabh Chandra, Deputy Director & Scientific-C, BIS Haryana, detailed the core functions of BIS, including standardization, product certification, ISI marking, hallmarking, and promoting quality consciousness. He spoke specifically about standards relevant to agricultural equipment, food products, household items, and water safety.

“Such initiatives bridge the gap between technical standards and the rural population, ensuring quality becomes part of everyday life,” said Ms. Chaudhary.
BIS Haryana plans to conduct more such Chaupals across the state to promote rural empowerment through awareness, education, and quality assurance.
