Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu chairs review meet; redevelopment project touches 81% completion, set to transform Tricity’s rail connectivity.
Chandigarh: Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu on Tuesday reviewed the ongoing Rs 462-crore redevelopment project of the Chandigarh railway station, aimed at transforming it into a modern, multimodal transit hub by October 2025.

Chairing a high-level review meeting in New Delhi, Bittu directed senior officials from the Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, RLDA, and Northern Railways to expedite pending works and ensure minimal inconvenience to commuters during peak hours.
Being executed under the EPC model by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), the project has already achieved 81% physical progress. It aims to modernize infrastructure and passenger services to handle a projected daily footfall of over 1 lakh passengers by 2061.
The station’s redeveloped design includes twin G+3 buildings on both Chandigarh and Panchkula sides, each spread across 8,367 sq m. A 72m x 80m covered concourse will provide weather-protected access across platforms, supported by two 12-meter-wide foot over bridges (FOBs) for smooth inter-platform transfers.
