Haryanvi Artist Gajender Phogat Honoured with ‘Pride of Jat Samaj’ Award in London

Gajender Phogat receives international recognition at the Jat Mela in London; launches poster for new song and dedicates a cultural anthem to overseas youth.

Chandigarh: Renowned Haryanvi folk artist Gajender Phogat was honoured with the ‘Pride of Jat Samaj’ award at the Jat Mela London, hosted by Jat Samaj UK. The event, held on foreign soil, also saw the launch of his new song poster titled “Desi Gaana”, celebrating Indian roots abroad.

The founder of Jat Samaj UK and London councillor Rohit Ahlawat highlighted the event’s aim: to connect Indians living in England with their cultural heritage. The Jat Mela showcased Haryanvi traditions through folk songs, dance, cuisine, attire, and social values.

Gajender Phogat was also the lyricist and singer of the mela’s theme song “Jat Mele Mein Aake Dekho Ji”, and was awarded the ‘Pride of Jat Samaj’ title for his contribution to promoting Indian culture globally. Avyukt Ahlawat, a London-born youth, enthralled the audience with his dance performance on Phogat’s song.

The mela wasn’t just about entertainment—it served as a bridge to reinforce family and community ties among Indian expatriates. There was also a focus on youth employment and cultural preservation.

In a special gesture to Haryanvi youth living abroad, Gajender Phogat dedicated his latest song “Success Wali Line” to those who remain connected to their roots despite living overseas. He also announced that a clean, culture-rich song would be released every month via his official channel.

Prominent attendees included Praveen Ahlawat, Vikram Rawat, Vijay Rathi, Tejpal Singh, Harish Dahiya, Kuldeep Ahlawat, Sukhvinder Nara, Lokesh Maan, Vikas Dhankhar, Sudhir Dagar, Sanjay Deshwal, Anil Malik, and Dushyant Tomar.
