July 9 Strike: UT Employees in Chandigarh Gear Up with Major Demands for Rights & Reforms

Chandigarh, June 30: The Federation of UT Employees and Workers Chandigarh has ramped up preparations for its planned strike on July 9, 2025, with widespread support from various unions. Today, gate meetings were held at the Electricity Office in Industrial Areas Phase 1 and 2, MC Horticulture Booths in Sectors 33 and 36, and Road Booth Sector 16 to mobilize employees and ensure the strike’s success.

Key union leaders including Gopal Dutt Joshi (General Secretary, Federation of UT Employees and Workers), Sukhwinder Singh (Senior Vice President, UT Powerman Union), Gurmeet Singh, Tech Raj Singh, Lalit Singh, Ajmer Singh, Harkesh Chand (President, CMC Horticulture Workers Union), M. Subrahmanyam, Budhram, Hardeep Singh, M. Rajendran, Prempal, and Toplan addressed the gatherings.

The speakers outlined a comprehensive list of demands being raised through the strike. Major issues include:

  • Repeal of the four new labor codes and the PFRDA Act
  • Restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and inclusion of EPS-95 pensioners
  • Regularization of outsourced and contract workers
  • Filling all vacant government posts through regular recruitment
  • Immediate stop to the privatization of PSUs and shrinking of government departments
  • Issuance of 8th Pay Commission notification and formation of state pay commissions
  • Release of 18 months’ frozen DA-DR and pending arrears to employees and pensioners
  • Implementation of a government-supported cashless health insurance scheme
  • Repeal of the National Education Policy (NEP) and Articles 310, 311(2)(a)(b)(c) of the Constitution
  • Implementation of the 7th Pay Commission report and pending arrears
  • Timely salary payments to outsourced workers (April and May pending)
  • Closure of the Face App biometric attendance system
  • Confirmation and pay revision for daily wage workers with more than 10 years of service

Union leaders condemned the administration’s indifferent attitude towards long-standing demands and called on all employees of the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation, and other departments to participate in the strike to protect their rights and secure their future.
