Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla Leads Sector 18 Tree Plantation Drive, Urges Citizens to Embrace Green Responsibility

Chandigarh – In a strong step toward environmental preservation, a tree plantation drive was organized by the Sector 18 Brotherhood Welfare Society, during which over 100 saplings were planted in Chandigarh’s Sector 18. The campaign was inaugurated by Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, who emphasized the importance of planting trees to combat the growing environmental crisis.
The event was graced by former Mayor Anup Gupta as the Guest of Honour, and prominent guests including Sumita Kohli, President of the well-known NGO The Last Benchers, and former Municipal Councillor Jagtar Singh Jagga.

During the plantation, various medicinal and shade-giving plants were planted to promote ecological balance. Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla remarked that planting a tree is as vital as raising a child, and urged everyone to commit to tree planting as a life responsibility.
Sumita Kohli and Senior Vice President Harmel Singh expressed concern over rising global warming and ozone layer depletion, warning of the adverse health effects already being felt. They emphasized the urgent need for collective awareness and action to protect the environment for future generations.

Key members of the organizing society included Chairman Col. H.S. Sraow, President Gurdeep Kaur Bhatti, Senior Vice President Harmel Singh Sara, Vice President HPS Bhatia, General Secretary R.K. Goel, Secretary & Convenor Harinder Singh Bhatti, and Finance Secretary Rishi Raj, all of whom participated actively in the plantation.
Former Mayor Anup Gupta and society members also joined in planting saplings and called on all citizens, social and religious organizations to take the Sawan month as an opportunity to plant more trees and help ensure clean air and a healthy environment for coming generations.
