Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu today paid a rich tribute to former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi on the anniversary of his death. He killed Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in Sadabhavan Chowk, Chhoti Shimla. During the media interaction, the Chief Minister said that the present state government was committed to realizing the vision of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi in the state, which was for the upliftment of the weak and marginal sections of society. Recalling his huge contribution, he said that Rajiv Gandhi set his life for the unity and integrity of the country and formed the basis for many transformation initiatives, which led to the progress and prosperity of the nation. He said that Rajiv Gandhi laid a strong foundation for the information technology revolution in the country, giving positive results for the present generation and amended the constitution, and provided 33 percent reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions.
Sh. Sukhu said that the present state government has introduced the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School Scheme in the state to improve the standards of education. He said that in each assembly constituency, these schools were being established with modern facilities and other infrastructure to benefit students living in rural areas of the state. He said that the state government is also implementing Rajiv Gandhi Swarozer Start-up Yojna, under which the youth will be provided loans to start their aviation. Under this scheme, unemployed youth were also offered 50 percent subsidy to buy e-taxis.
The Chief Minister also vowed for the national unity and integration of the country. Later, he paid floral tribute to former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi at HP Secretariat and administered the oath of Anti -Terrorism to the officials and officials on the occasion.
