IIT Ropar’s ANNAM.AI Sparks an AI Revolution in Indian Agriculture

The government-backed Centre of Excellence deploys 100 advanced weather stations and trains 10,000 rural youth. Ultimately, this initiative aims to accelerate AI in Indian agriculture and make data-driven farming accessible nationwide. Ropar, March 26, 2026: IIT Ropar’s ANNAM.AI has launched a major initiative to transform farming. Consequently, the government-backed Centre of Excellence wants to accelerate AI in Indian agriculture. The Ministry of Education fully supports this project. Therefore, farmers will soon access data-driven farming practices easily. First, the team is building a scalable Weather Intelligence Network. They have started deploying 100 advanced weather stations. Initially, Punjab will serve as the first implementation hub. Furthermore, the Centre provides these high-tech stations at no cost. These tools deliver hyperlocal, real-time weather data directly to farmers. As a result, farmers can make precise decisions about sowing, irrigation, and crop protection. Ultimately, this initiative reduces climate-related risks and boosts overall farm productivity. Moreover, planners designed this project as a model for nationwide expansion. Soon, the rollout will reach Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other states. In addition to hardware, ANNAM.AI focuses heavily on human resources. The organization will roll out fully funded AI training for 10,000 students, rural youth, and Agri-professionals. Thus, this skilling programme builds strong on-ground capabilities. It effectively creates a pipeline of experts ready to apply AI at scale. Meanwhile, leaders gathered today at the Smart Agri Summit 2026. Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Sh. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, praised the effort. He stated, “The future of farming is innovation and technology adoption, and AI is here to empower the farmers.” He also added that rising climate risks make data crucial. He explained how they solve real-world challenges. Dr. Singh noted, “By combining real-time data with scientific insights, we aim to make farming more productive, sustainable, and climate resilient.” Overall, the summit successfully united government, academia, and the Agri-tech sector. Ultimately, these vital partnerships will advance the future of farming.
