Chandigarh Khelo Games 2026: BJP Launches Major Sports Initiative to Steer Youth Away from Drugs
The BJP Chandigarh Sports Cell has introduced a week-long tournament at Panjab University to empower Under-19 athletes. This initiative serves as a strategic move to steer local youth toward a disciplined, drug-free lifestyle. The BJP Chandigarh Sports Cell officially announced the “Chandigarh Khelo Games 2026” during a press conference today. This major initiative aims to provide a positive direction to local youth through athletic competition. State President Jitender Pal Malhotra and Sports Cell Convener Prabhjeet Singh Lamba led the briefing at the party’s Sector-33 office. The tournament will take place from May 11 to May 17, 2026, at Panjab University. Consequently, young athletes will have a premier platform to showcase their skills in 11 different disciplines. These include popular sports like Football, Basketball, Kabaddi, Rugby, and various Track & Field events. “The primary objective of this event is to keep Chandigarh’s youth away from the menace of drugs,” stated Prabhjeet Singh Lamba. He emphasized that sports instill discipline and mental strength. Therefore, the party encourages maximum participation to foster a healthier community. Registration for the event is completely free of cost. Already, more than 700 players have signed up for the competition. However, interested participants must act quickly, as the registration window closes on May 9, 2026. During the conference, the party also honored the Chandigarh Junior Netball team. These athletes recently secured a Bronze Medal at the 38th Junior Netball National Championship. Furthermore, State President Jitender Pal Malhotra announced a significant reward for their success. Each player will receive a cash prize of ₹1 lakh from the UT Sports Department. Malhotra described the achievement as a proud moment for the city.
