Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone spoke at a session named ‘The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler’ on day 1 of WAVES Summit 2025. Moderated by Karan Johar, the session created waves (pun intended) thanks to SRK’s replies. Deepika Padukone said that SRK was very kind to her when he launched her in his home production, Om Shanti Om (2007). Shah Rukh’s reaction to it raised laughs and also won hearts.

Shah Rukh quipped, “I was kind to Deepika on the sets because she was underage (laughs). You can’t reprimand children just like you don’t expect your kids to be reprimanded in school.”
He then said, “I also want to add one more thing and it’s a bit personal. So, please excuse me if I am stepping beyond boundaries. But the role that she’s going to play the best inshallah is that of a mother now with Dua. She’s really going to be a wonderful mother!” Deepika and Ranveer Singh became proud parents of their daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, who was born on September 8.
Shah Rukh Khan then once again raised laughs as he revealed, “I was sitting in my home one day when Karan Johar came to my house with a script. I won’t name the script. It required me to wear a skirt throughout the film! That was the only time I wanted to step back! I was like, ‘Aisa toh nahin hoga yaar ki main skirt pehen ke picture mein kaam karunga’!”
He added, “It was set in the olden times when men wore skirts. But men wore skirts; androgynous men (can’t be) wearing skirts (laughs)!”
Karan Johar explained, “The character was such.” SRK replied, “Woh character ke liye tu khud skirt pehen ke khud acting karna jab tera dil karein! Main pants mein theek hoon.” Karan Johar laughed and remarked, “People will believe that I can wear skirts. I can assure you.”
