BJP Chandigarh will sponsor cataract surgeries for 50 patients, while doctors flag high blood sugar levels in nearly 300 visitors during the weekend camp.
CHANDIGARH — More than 1,300 residents received free medical screenings during a two-day Mega Health Camp held in Dhanas Char Manzil Colony on September 26 and 27. The camp was organised as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The initiative took place under the directions of BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra. Meanwhile, BJP Medical Cell President Lalit Takiar and Medical Cell In-charge Dr. Sanjeev Bhatia supervised and guided the operations on the ground.
Doctors and paramedical staff from GMCH-32 and Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH-16) provided comprehensive clinical consultations. Beneficiaries accessed diagnostic tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, bone mineral density, and vision care. In addition, the GMCH-32 mobile van performed specialized DEXA scans and mammography screenings for around 140 visitors.
Crucially, eye specialists identified nearly 50 patients who urgently require cataract surgery. BJP Chandigarh Pradesh announced that it will bear the entire cost of these operations so that financial constraints do not deny treatment to underprivileged families. Furthermore, teams distributed free prescription medicines to patients, including up to three-month drug supplies for chronic conditions.
However, medical teams also uncovered critical health trends during routine diagnostics. Around 300 patients registered significantly high blood sugar levels, with many learning about their diabetic condition for the first time. Consequently, attending physicians offered immediate counselling on lifestyle modifications and referred them for targeted follow-up care.
Key contributors to the event included Deepak Pathak, Dr. Meena Chadha, Vikas Bansal, Anu Singla, Rajesh Singla, Raghav, Abhineet, Inder Dev Sharma, and District Convenor Sanjay Arora.
Ultimately, organizers stated that the camp advanced the core mission of grassroots public service. The BJP Medical Cell reaffirmed its commitment to organizing regular healthcare drives across vulnerable neighbourhoods in Chandigarh.
