BJP Chandigarh chief Jatinder Pal Malhotra slammed the opposition for attacking constitutional bodies and misleading citizens regarding the Special Intensive Revision process.
CHANDIGARH — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp counter-offensive against the Congress and the INDI Alliance on Sunday, calling their allegations against the Election Commission baseless and politically motivated. Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters ‘Kamalam’ in Sector 33, BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra accused the opposition of deliberately eroding public trust in constitutional institutions.
Malhotra clarified that the controversy over a letter sent to the Cabinet Secretary was completely manufactured. He stated that the Election Commission’s clarification already established that the letter involved an internal administrative matter concerning an officer’s service, rather than any electoral policy or the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Therefore, linking routine administrative correspondence to policy decisions amounts to deliberately distorting facts.
Meanwhile, the BJP chief addressed the opposition’s claims regarding Form-6 voter enrolments. He affirmed that Form-6 remains the standard, legally prescribed method for eligible citizens to enter electoral rolls. Furthermore, booth-level officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door outreach solely to ensure maximum democratic participation.
“Political opposition has its place, but compromising the credibility of democratic institutions cannot be accepted,” Malhotra said. “The Congress and the INDI Alliance should abandon the politics of lies, misinformation, and incomplete information, and present their views before the people on the basis of facts.”
In addition, Malhotra noted that questioning independent bodies like the judiciary, the CAG, and the armed forces has become a recurring pattern for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He recalled that Gandhi previously tendered an unconditional apology in the Supreme Court over remarks made during the 2019 Rafale hearings.
BJP Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dharinder Tayal highlighted the opposition’s selective trust in electoral systems. He pointed out that while the Congress celebrates the Election Commission and electronic voting machines when winning in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, it routinely discredits those same institutions upon facing electoral defeat.
State Media In-charge Ravi Rawat, Spokesperson Gurpreet Dhillon, Rahul Sharma, and Neha Arora also attended the briefing.
