At the third edition of the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2025, Vidya Balan graced a special masterclass celebrating her two-decade journey in Indian cinema. During the engaging conversation, titled “The 20 Glorious Years of ‘Shero’ Vidya Balan!”, the powerhouse performer spoke about her hiatus from film sets post Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and what finally made her say “yes” to the film after nearly two and a half years.

When asked whether the gap between projects indicates a larger creative crisis in the industry, Vidya offered a more nuanced explanation. “When I say it’s the best script I’ve read in two and a half years, it’s also because I was specifically looking to do something entertaining. I just wanted to have fun. And everything that was coming my way just wasn’t that.”
The film that finally got her excited turned out to be an unexpected delight. “It was an uneasy movie, and uneasiness always catches my attention. Even during the narration and while reading the script, I thought, ‘Oh wow, this is just fun.’ I truly enjoyed myself,” she said.
She also recalled a recent comment from someone who watched the film: “They said, ‘You look like you had a lot of fun,’ and I told them, ‘I did!’ Honestly, I’ve never spent so much time chatting with a director on set as I did with Anees Bazmee,” added the actress.
Vidya revealed how her off-camera camaraderie with the director became one of the unexpected highlights of the shoot. “I’m quite a stickler for time. I’d always be ready on time, and instead of waiting in my vanity van, I’d sit with Anees ji. He would regale me with stories, from the time he was an assistant to Raj Kapoor to so many others. It was such a joy.”
