Amritsar: The slogans of pro -Khalistan were raised by several people at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on the 41st anniversary of Operation Blue Star on Thursday. People raised slogans of ‘Khalistan Zindabad’, as it reached the Golden Temple on the 41st anniversary of Simranjit Singh Maan Operation Blue Star, the leader of the sad (Maan faction) and the anniversary of the death of Jarnal Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed during the operation.
Operation Blue Star was a 10-day military operation from 1 June to 10 June 1984. The 41st anniversary of Operation Blue Star was seen by the Sikh community at Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday. Security has been given beef around the golden temple for this occasion.
On this ocean, Akal Takht East Jathedar, Jasbir Singh said, “… Till date the government does not have the answer as to why the Sikhs were attacked. The Sikhs did not demand their rights. Then, without any notice or warning, we were attacking us. Honors to those who lived life for us for our religion …”
On the ‘Khalistan Zindabad’ slogans, he said, “These slogans have always been raised here and around the world. There is nothing new in this.” On June 6, 1984, the day was marked when under Operation Blue Star, the Indian Army created a storm in the Golden Temple on the orders of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to include a Sikh fierceness under the leadership of Journal Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. It was reported that Bhindranwale had put a large amount of weapons in the Golden Temple campus.
Bhindranwale was the head of the radical Sikh outfit Damdami Taksal. He was killed during Operation Blue Star, along with his armed followers, which was launched by the Indian Army in June 1984 to expel terrorists from the Golden Temple Complex.
The operation was heavily criticized. Months later, Indira Gandhi was murdered by two Sikh bodyguards at her new Delhi residence on 31 October 1984. Bant Singh and Satwant Singh were the bodyguards of Indira Gandhi and killed him at his residence on 31 October 1984. In the Lok Sabha elections held last year, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, son of Bent Singh (one of Indira Gandhi’s bodyguards), won the Aam Aadmi Party leader Karamjit Singh Anmol from Faridkot constituency with a difference of 70,053 votes.
