Kartik Aaryan, Sreeleela starrer romantic musical delayed, Anurag Basu breaks silence on Saiyaara comparison rumours

Amid speculation surrounding the delay of Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s untitled romantic musical, director Anurag Basu has stepped forward to set the record straight. Reports recently claimed that the film’s release was being postponed due to thematic similarities with Saiyaara, another romantic musical that has been performing exceptionally well at the box office. Kartik Aaryan, Sreeleela starrer romantic musical delayed, Anurag Basu breaks silence on Saiyaara comparison rumours However, speaking to India Today, Anurag Basu dismissed these claims and clarified that the delay had nothing to do with Saiyaara’s recent success. He acknowledged the postponement but attributed it to overlapping schedules between himself and the film’s lead actor Kartik Aaryan. “Given that both films feature performers as central characters, we knew comparisons would be drawn. But the two films are completely different from each other,” said the filmmaker. Further talking about the actor’s hectic Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri schedule with Ananya Panday, Basu added, “Kartik was busy with Karan Johar’s film, and I was also occupied with Metro (Metro.. In Dino)’s release. We’ll soon move on to our next schedule and aim to wrap the film soon,” he added. The buzz around the Kartik-Sreeleela starrer has been strong ever since the project was announced. The film, which marks the first collaboration between the two rising stars, is being described as a soulful, music-driven love story—a genre Anurag Basu is known to handle with emotional finesse. The recent release of Saiyaara, also a romantic musical featuring debutant Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, garnered massive box office attention. This led to speculation that Basu’s team wanted to avoid thematic overlap and shifted the film’s timeline accordingly. But with the director’s clarification, fans can rest assured that the film’s creative vision remains on track. As Kartik Aaryan continues to juggle major projects, including his upcoming romantic comedy as well as a fantasy drama – both with Karan Johar, and Sreeleela preps for her much-awaited Bollywood debut, the film’s next shooting schedule is expected to commence soon. Despite the delay, excitement remains high for this musical collaboration. With Anurag Basu at the helm and a fresh on-screen pair, expectations continue to build around what could be one of the most talked-about love stories of the coming year. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival in the Perspective section, the Bengali film Baksho Bondi – Shadowbox, starring Tillotama Shome and produced by Shome and Jim Sarbh, will open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 as the Opening Night Film, marking its Australian premiere. Tillotama Shome starrer Baksho Bondi – Shadowbox to open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025 Co-directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi in their directorial debut, Baksho Bondi features Tillotama Shome as Maya, set against the backdrop of a dusty Kolkata suburb, weaving a powerful narrative of love, resilience, and the quiet strength of a working woman navigating her everyday life. The Opening Night screening is scheduled for August 14th in Melbourne, setting the tone for the festival’s celebration of bold, layered, and deeply human stories from India. Tillotama Shome, reflecting on the film’s journey, shared, “Baksho Bondi is incredibly close to my heart. Playing Maya was a lesson in listening to silences, in discovering strength in small acts, and in understanding how quiet resilience shapes women’s lives in a world that often overlooks them. After Berlin, bringing Maya’s story to Melbourne feels special because of the incredible strength and spirit of inclusion that radiates from Mitu, the festival director of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Akshay Kumar takes heroism off-screen; insures 650+ stuntmen across India in landmark move

Known as Bollywood’s original Khiladi, Akshay Kumar has now proven he’s a real-life hero too. In a groundbreaking move, the superstar has personally insured the lives of over 650 stuntmen and stuntwomen across India — offering them critical health and accident coverage many never had before. Akshay Kumar takes heroism off-screen; insures 650+ stuntmen across India in landmark move This life-changing initiative arrives at a time when conversations around safety in the entertainment industry have gained urgency, especially in the wake of the tragic death of a stuntman named Raju on the set of an upcoming Tamil film by Pa Ranjith and Arya. For decades, stunt professionals have risked life and limb to deliver thrilling cinematic moments — often working with minimal safety gear and zero medical backup. A single injury can result in financial ruin, as the majority of these behind-the-scenes heroes lack basic health insurance. Akshay Kumar’s initiative not only offers them tangible protection but also a sense of visibility and value long overdue. Speaking on behalf of the stunt community, seasoned action professional Vikram Singh Dahiya — who has worked on films like Dhadak 2, Jigra, Gunjan Saxena, Antim, and OMG 2 — expressed heartfelt appreciation. “Thanks to Akshay sir, around 650 to 700 stuntmen and action crew members in Bollywood are now covered under insurance,” Dahiya shared. “The policy includes both health and accident coverage. If a stunt performer is injured, whether on or off set, they can avail of cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 to ₹5.5 lakh.” This insurance plan — covering a substantial portion of the action community — is being hailed as a benchmark initiative. It demonstrates how influential figures in the film industry can use their platform to bring about meaningful, lasting change. With this bold step, Akshay Kumar is not just ensuring better safety nets for the unsung heroes of cinema — he’s setting a powerful precedent for social responsibility in showbiz.
