SCOOP: YRF puts the standalone NTR Jr. film for Spy Universe on HOLD after the failure of War 2

War 2’s failure has rattled YRF to its core, pushing the studio brass back to the drawing board. The film hasn’t just faced flak for its weak content; it’s also tanked theatrically, inflicting heavy financial losses on all stakeholders. And in a dramatic fallout, Aditya Chopra has already pulled the plug on the planned standalone film featuring NTR Jr., aka Agent Vikram. SCOOP: YRF puts the standalone NTR Jr. film for Spy Universe on HOLD after the failure of War 2 A source close to the studio discreetly informed Bollywood Hungama, “YRF had ambitious plans to capitalize on the Pan India popularity of NTR Jr. and make a spin-off to the character of Agent Vikram. The creative team at YRF was already developing a standalone film for Agent Vikram, but the failure of War 2 has halted the entire process.” In-fact, Aditya Chopra is clear not to proceed on the Agent Vikram spin-off, and will be redesigning the Spy Universe in the future. “Agent Vikram film is not a feasible move anymore, and Adi has conveyed the same to NTR Jr. The Man of Masses also agreed to Adi’s point of view and has parted ways with the banner on a very healthy note. He would not longer be a part of the Spy Universe, as the condition to sign on for War 2 was the possibility of a solo Agent Vikram film as a follow-up to War 2.” The next Chapter of the YRF Spy Universe is Alpha with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, and the tentative release date is Christmas 2025. War 2 leaves YRF bleeding with losses of approx. Rs. 60 crores; a bigger embarrassment than Thugs of Hindostan

Within a span of 7 days, everything around the YRF Spy Universe has come crashing down. What looked like a franchise that couldn’t go wrong – with back-to-back 5 hit films – witnessed the first failure since 2012. After successfully delivering Pathaan and Tiger 3 in 2023, the hopes were high for Aditya Chopra’s War 2 with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. in the lead. War 2 leaves YRF bleeding with losses of approx. Rs. 60 crores; a bigger embarrassment than Thugs of Hindostan To make it a tentpole feature spectacle for the viewers, Aditya Chopra left no stone unturned by mounting it on a historical budget of Rs. 450 crores (All Inclusive). However, the production house’s risk has not paid off. Reliable industry sources have confirmed that YRF will be losing big money on War 2. “Around Rs. 150 crores have been recovered from the sale of digital, satellite, and music. The theatrical share in the best-case scenario from here will be Rs. 140 crores from the worldwide box office. This means YRF is set to lose approximately. Rs. 60 to 70 crores on War 2.” The source further confirmed that this is the biggest disaster for YRF in the modern era, along with the Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan film Thugs of Hindostan. “The Monday numbers have come down crashing, and it’s the death of the franchise at this point in time. In fact, the failure of War 2 has also impacted the future spyverse slate of YRF.” The losses to YRF aside, the Telugu distributor of the film, Naga Vamsi, too, will lose 65 percent of his investment. “Naga Vamsi acquired War 2 for Rs. 90 crores, and the Telugu share of War 2 will be less than Rs. 40 crores. He is set to lose over Rs. 50 crores on War 2.” After back-to-back hits in the form of Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3, War 2 is the first failure from the YRF Spy Universe. SCOOP: Coolie shows increased in multiplexes on popular demand; showcasing battle with War 2 gets intense

It’s all volatile in the film industry as the battle between War 2 (Hindi) and Coolie (Hindi) is getting more intense than anyone could ever imagine. In front of a juggernaut like War 2, Coolie is managing to make its way towards the audience. Earlier in the week, Bollywood Hungama explosively reported how YRF has bagged 100 percent showcasing in all single screens, dual screens, and triple screen properties across India, leaving just one/two shows for Coolie in the four-screen properties. SCOOP: Coolie shows increased in multiplexes on popular demand; showcasing battle with War 2 gets intense But all it took to change the tide was the advances. The last four days have seen a dynamic shift in showcasing, as the showcasing for Coolie is increasing with every single day. The film initially was slated to release with a capacity of Rs. 8 crore on the first day, but the good advance booking response has now increased the capacity by 60 percent to Rs. 13 crores. While War 2 will be leading in Hindi, there is a high possibility for Coolie to clock better occupancy in Hindi on the day of release, as the size remains to be lower than the demand. A leading multiplex player tells us on anonymity, “Coolie is doing well in the tier 2 and tier 3 centres, and hence we are increasing the shows for the film. There is a demand in the audience, and as service providers, we just have to match that.” Another cinema owner, who owns a two-screen property, told us, “We had strict orders from YRF not to give a single show to Coolie. However, we have now managed to get 2 shows of Coolie at our property, due to the audience demand, and it has started to sell tickets as well.” The names of cinema halls and multiplex chains have been kept under wraps to protect their financial interests, but the shows have already started to increase on the Book My Show platform. War 2 GRAND event in Hyderabad: Akshaye Widhani of YRF says, “War 2 is going to be a GAME-CHANGER…we have worked very hard to keep the story HIDDEN”; hails Hrithik Roshan, NTR: “The GREATEST actors of the North and South have come together for this film”

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR attended the much-talked-about War 2 promotional event organized at a grand scale in Hyderabad. Before the stars came on the stage, Akshaye Widhani of Yash Raj Films (YRF) spoke about the stars, the film and a lot more. War 2 GRAND event in Hyderabad: Akshaye Widhani of YRF says, “War 2 is going to be a GAME-CHANGER…we have worked very hard to keep the story HIDDEN”; hails Hrithik Roshan, NTR: “The GREATEST actors of the North and South have come together for this film” Akshaye Widhani began by saying, “It’s a real privilege and an honour to be here. We are all very excited about War 2. This year, we celebrate 25 years of Hrithik and NTR sir, which is amazing. The fact that these two icons of Indian cinema have come together indicates that something special is happening. War 2 is going to be a game-changer. I want to take a moment to thank them both for doing this and making sure that we made such a special film. I would also like to thank everyone who has come out today. War 2 is going to be a surprise that all of you are going to love. You are also going to enjoy NTR to the fullest in the film!” As expected, the crowd went crazy on hearing the last sentence. Akshaye Widhani continued, “Both Hrithik sir and NTR are outstanding. I can’t wait for you guys to watch it. War 2 is a true Pan-India film. The greatest actors of the North and South have come together for this film. I think it’s going to be extra special and magical. I believe we have created a film that is fitting to their legacy. Both have an incredible body of work and they have achieved a lot in 25 years. Their fans have given so much love that we hope that all that love comes to War 2.” He added, “YRF Spy Universe is truly one of India’s leading franchises. It took years of hard work to get here. A lot of thought, strategy and curation have gone into building this universe.” When asked where War 2 fits in the timeline of the universe, Akshaye replied, “I think Ayan Mukerji has made such a fine film that we are all proud of. As for the timeline, I don’t want to share anything about the story of the film. We have worked very hard to keep the story hidden and make sure that it’s a surprise for the audience when they come on the 14th. All I can say is that it’s a brilliant film and fits perfectly in the universe.” War 2 releases in cinemas on August 14. Coolie v/s War 2: Rajinikanth starrer releases on 1200 screens against Hrithik Roshan and NTR's actioner in Hindi

The biggest showdown of the year between War 2 and Coolie has begun. While the Rajinikanth starrer has taken the box office by storm globally, things are slowly starting to gain momentum in Hindi as well. Seeing a North India release by Pen Marudhar, Coolie is slated to release on 1200 screens in Hindi, which is the second highest for a Tamil film dubbed in Hindi after 2 Point 0. Coolie v/s War 2: Rajinikanth starrer releases on 1200 screens against Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s actioner in Hindi A trade source shared with Bollywood Hungama, “Coolie is getting a good release in Hindi, as the makers have managed to fetch 1200 screens. The distributor has managed to get about 3500 shows in Hindi, which is reasonable for a dubbed film in a clash scenario. However, the release size is nowhere close to War 2, which arrives on 5000 screens in Hindi. The Hrithik and NTR Jr. film will be showing a substantial lead with showcasing in Hindi, as in Hindi, it is undoubtedly what Coolie is turning out to be for the Non-Hindi audience.” The battle for showcasing is going on at a super strong pace all across the country, as Pen Marudhar is trying to get some shows in single screens too. “YRF announced it will capture over 90 percent of single screens in India, but the single screen bookings are yet to open as team Coolie is trying to get one show per screen. The negotiations are on, and the single-screen owners are stuck in a fierce battle.” Overall, War 2 is set for a significant lead in North India as the giant force of YRF will always be prefered over anyone else in the North market, but Pen Marudhar is trying to find a way out to get some sort of counter showcasing, to get footfalls on the first day. SCOOP: Not Salman Khan, or Shah Rukh Khan, Bobby Deol to have a cameo in War 2

War 2 is among the most awaited films of 2025, which brings together Hrithik Roshan and NTR for the first time. Since it is a part of the YRF Spy Universe, there are several rumours and speculations about Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan making an appearance in the end credit sequence of War 2. But we can confirm that neither of the two superstars have a cameo in War 2. SCOOP: Not Salman Khan, or Shah Rukh Khan, Bobby Deol to have a cameo in War 2 Sources close to the project told Bollywood Hungama, “War 2 won’t feature either of Tiger or Pathaan, however, their names will be used at some key junctures of the film. The end credit sequence of War 2 will act as a build up for the next chapter of YRF Spy Universe – Alpha. Aditya Chopra is staying true to his vision of continuing the story forward, rather than opting for gimmicks by bringing all 3 superstars in the same film. He is reserving the union of all 3 superstars for a mega project, which is in the development stage.” We asked the source what is the surprise element of War 2. “With War 2, Aditya Chopra will be establishing Bobby Deol to the Universe. It’s an epic introduction to Bobby Deol’s character, who is one of the main villains in the timeline going forward. Aditya Chopra is known to go against the tide, and instead of establishing his two female leads of Alpha – Alia Bhatt and Sharvari – he is going ahead by unleashing the negative force of the film, Bobby Deol,” the source told Bollywood Hungama. War 2 is set to release on August 14, 2025 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It is directed by Ayan Mukerji and is the 6th Chapter of YRF Spy Universe. Intense screen battle between Coolie and War 2 in Telugu states; NTR Jr. flexes his power against Rajinikanth

The box office has turned into a battlefield in Telugu as War 2 and Coolie have engaged in an intense screen battle in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Reliable sources confirm that Asian Cinemas and Sitara Entertainment are fighting it out for prime time shows in the Telugu states. “With NTR Jr. as the lead, War 2 will eventually win the showcasing battle in Telugu states. However, Suniel Narang, the owner of Asian Cinemas, is going out of his way to secure 40 percent screen for Coolie,” a trade source shared with Bollywood Hungama. The trade source informed that the exhibitors in Telugu states are, however, in favour of Naga Vamsi, as NTR Jr. is one of the biggest local stars, and none are willing for a face-off with him. “NTR Jr. is an influential personality, same for Naga Vamsi. No one is willing to upset them. The intense face-off between Coolie and War 2 will end soon, and the latter will get strong showcasing in the Telugu states. Approx. 62 percent of the screens will go to War 2, leaving just 38 percent for Coolie,” the source told us further. While Asian Cinemas are trying for a 60:40 ratio, Sitara Entertainment is hoping to secure screens in the ratio of 70:30 in its favour. It’s going to be a clear lead for War 2 over Coolie in North India and Andhra Pradesh / Telangana, as the studio YRF, along with local distributor partners, are going all out to do complete justice to the scale of the film. “NTR Jr. too is flexing his equations and stardom to get premium showcasing and has succeeded in doing so against Rajinikanth.” More Pages: Coolie Box Office Collection BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama. Coolie tornado strikes War 2 internationally; Rajinikanth starrer grosses Rs. 27 crores compared to Rs. 4.5 crore for War 2

The Rajinikanth led Coolie is turning out to be a box office hurricane as the film has surpassed all expectations in the advance booking. With 6 days to go for release, Coolie has sold tickets worth Rs. 27 crores in the international markets, making it the best advance of all time for an Indian film outside of Baahubali 2. Leading from the front is the US, followed by Malaysia, the UAE, and Australia/New Zealand. Coolie tornado strikes War 2 internationally; Rajinikanth starrer grosses Rs. 27 crores compared to Rs. 4.5 crore for War 2 The film is looking to score history at the box office with an unimaginable opening day at the overseas market. The first day could be as high as Rs. 80 crores on Thursday, which speaks volumes about the hype commanded by Coolie among the cinema-going audience. While the total overseas advance of Coolie stands at Rs. 27 crores, War 2 has a sub-par response with advances of Rs. 4.50 crores. The Telugu version of War 2 has contributed 50 percent to the total advances so far. The film is trailing behind Coolie internationally, and the hope for revival in this will be the business in India, especially driven by NTR Jr. in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Hrithik Roshan in the Hindi markets. At the moment, it looks like a clean sweep for Coolie to emerge as the first pick at the worldwide box office, until and unless War 2 makes up for the overseas gap with performance in India. Right now, it’s safe to conclude that the hype for War 2 is hit by a tornado in the form of Coolie. No IMAX release for Weapons in India due to War 2; F1: The Movie refuses to slow down; gets another week’s run in IMAX screens

The mystery horror film, Weapons, has been released today worldwide, including India. There’s a lot of curiosity for the film as the pre-release reports have been solid. Though this is not a typical biggie, a section of the audience is excited to catch the film on the IMAX screens. However, the Indian audience won’t be lucky in this regard. No IMAX release for Weapons in India due to War 2; F1: The Movie refuses to slow down; gets another week’s run in IMAX screens It turns out that Weapons will skip an IMAX release in India. A source explained the reason for it, “Weapons releases on August 8, while War 2 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on Thursday, August 14. Yash Raj Films (YRF), producers of War 2, have exclusively booked all 33 IMAX screens in India. Hence, Weapons would have got a run in IMAX for only 6 days as opposed to other parts of the world where it’ll continue to play for at least a few weeks. Warner Bros felt it was impractical to bring the film in IMAX in this country for such a short period of time and hence, decided to skip its IMAX release.” This means that F1: The Movie has got another extended run in the IMAX theatres in the country. Starring Brad Pitt, it was released on June 27 and despite not being a conventional mainstream entertainer, it continues to attract the audience steadily. In IMAX, however, it is having an outstanding run. It was discontinued from the IMAX theatres due to the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But from August 1, it was back and continues to rule. From August 8, F1: The Movie will have more shows in IMAX. In both the IMAX properties in Pune and at Cinepolis Seawoods Navi Mumbai and Cinepolis Thane, F1: The Movie will have four shows a day. It’s no surprise that the weekend shows are already filling fast, though it is currently in its seventh week. At the Indian box office, it has crossed the Rs. 90 crores mark and it remains to be seen if it manages to cross the Rs. 100 crores mark. Fans of F1: The Movie should note that this would be the last week for the film in IMAX, again, due to War 2. But it’s clear that there’s a lot of gas left in the tank and it won’t be a surprise if it manages to be back in IMAX cinemas once again after some time in one of the open weeks. Coming back to Weapons, the Zach Cregger-directorial has managed to have a decent advance booking and it’s better than the other big Hollywood week release of the week, Freakier Friday. It remains to be seen if Weapons also emerges as another surprise at the box office. Rajinikanth vs Hrithik-NTR Jr. at box office: Coolie takes SHOCKING 6X lead over War 2 in US with 9 days to go!

In a surprising turn of events, the Rajinikanth-led Coolie has taken a massive lead over the Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. led War 2 in the advance bookings at the US box office. With 9 days to go for release, the 6th chapter of Spy Universe has sold tickets worth USD 205K (Hindi + Telugu) in North America, as compared to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film, which has clocked a phenomenal advance booking of USD 1.2 million. Rajinikanth vs Hrithik-NTR Jr. at box office: Coolie takes SHOCKING 6X lead over War 2 in US with 9 days to go! One must note that the North American market is dominated by the Telugu audience, and yet, a Tamil film has taken a big lead in the booking. The scenario is uniform at every place where the pre-sales have opened, with Coolie taking a big lead over War 2, which includes Australia and New Zealand too. This trend has come across as a surprise as War 2 is a much bigger film than Coolie on the budget front, as also it comes from an already established franchise. More centers are expected to open soon for both films, but the initial lead in this overseas battle is currently inclined towards Rajinikanth, as Coolie is leading the show by a huge margin. What comes across as a shocker is the fact that the Telugu dubbed version of Coolie (USD 200K) is leading over the Telugu version of War 2 (USD 155K) in the US. While the sales of the Hindi version of War 2 (USD 50K) are negligible, trailing behind Pathaan, Dunki, Jawan, Tiger 3, and Animal, the Telugu version too is trailing behind films like Game Changer in the US. The next 9 days are crucial as War 2 needs to begin to gain momentum to leave a mark in the international markets. Hrithik Roshan- NTR starrer War 2 sets new North American record: Fastest Indian film to cross $100K in pre-sales

In yet another indication of its soaring global anticipation, War 2 has created history in the North American market by becoming the fastest Indian film to cross USD 100,000 in advance ticket sales. Achieving this feat in just seven hours, the Hrithik Roshan–NTR Jr starrer has outpaced the previous record held by Devara, which took 11 hours and 37 minutes to reach the same milestone earlier this year. Hrithik Roshan- NTR starrer War 2 sets new North American record: Fastest Indian film to cross $100K in pre-sales The benchmark achievement was confirmed by industry sources tracking pre-sales across key US and Canadian circuits, marking a major win for Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, which continues to gain momentum with each new instalment. While pre-release hype around War 2 had been steadily building—thanks to the union of two cinematic powerhouses in Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr—few expected such a swift surge in ticket demand, particularly in a traditionally competitive overseas market. What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is the fact that the $100K mark was crossed without the benefit of region-specific promotional tours or major marketing activations in the US and Canada. The buzz, it seems, has been driven almost entirely by the reputation of the lead actors, the curiosity around Ayan Mukerji’s directorial vision, and the franchise’s previous success at the global box office. War (2019), the film’s predecessor, set new benchmarks for action thrillers in Hindi cinema. War 2 not only promises to raise the bar with high-octane action sequences and a broader narrative arc but also extends the canvas of the YRF Spy Universe, which now includes hits like Pathaan and Tiger 3. For NTR Jr., War 2 is his first major outing in Bollywood post-RRR, and the excitement from Telugu cinema fans—especially in the diaspora—has been a major driver of these numbers. The crossover appeal, coupled with Hrithik Roshan’s loyal international fanbase, has turned War 2 into a cross-demographic juggernaut. Industry insiders expect the momentum to continue well past the first $100K. With weeks still to go before release, all eyes are now on how far War 2 can push the envelope in terms of pre-sales benchmarks—not just for Indian films, but international releases in general. In a global landscape where Indian cinema is increasingly making inroads into mainstream markets, War 2‘s North American performance is more than just a record—it’s a statement. BREAKING: 'Kesariya' team reunites for Hrithik Roshan–Kiara Advani’s romantic 'Flashback' song in War 2

In what’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated tracks of the year, Bollywood Hungama can exclusively confirm that the hitmaking team behind the iconic ‘Kesariya’—director Ayan Mukerji, composer Pritam, lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, and singer Arijit Singh—are reuniting for a romantic track in War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. BREAKING: ‘Kesariya’ team reunites for Hrithik Roshan–Kiara Advani’s romantic ‘Flashback’ song in War 2 The track, which is expected to drop this week, will be the first song from War 2 to be released, just ahead of the film’s grand Independence Day weekend opening on August 14, 2025. The internet has been buzzing with chatter about this reunion, and now, the collaboration has been officially confirmed by Yash Raj Films, the producers of the upcoming spy action thriller. While YRF spokesperson confirms the latest update, they refrained from giving away plot details, but a source close to the development reveals, “It is a beautiful track that shows the romance between Hrithik and Kiara’s characters in War 2. The song is soft, emotional, and soulful—very different from the high-octane tone of the film. It will reveal the backstory of their relationship.” Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported that the romantic ballad is actually a flashback number, shedding light on Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) and Kavya (Kiara Advani) and their past connection. Shot in the scenic locales of Rome and Tuscany, glimpses of the shoot had leaked online months ago, creating a frenzy among fans eager to witness this on-screen pairing’s chemistry. With the creative forces behind Kesariya at the helm, expectations are already soaring. The emotional resonance of that song had struck a chord with millions, and this upcoming track aims to do the same, this time within the intense world of espionage and betrayal. Arijit Singh, who earlier delivered the chartbuster Ghungroo with Hrithik in War (2019), returns to lend his voice once again—this time for a more intimate and heartfelt melody. While War 2 promises to be a visual spectacle and high-stakes action drama—especially with the formidable face-off between Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr.—this flashback love song adds a touch of vulnerability and emotional complexity to Kabir’s arc. For fans, it’s a glimpse into what Kabir once had and what may have shaped the man he has become. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, and produced by Aditya Chopra under the YRF Spy Universe, War 2 is set for a Pan-India release in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil across theatres and IMAX screens. Following the blockbuster response to its teaser and trailer, this song release is poised to be the next big moment in the campaign—and it couldn’t come at a better time. With a musical dream team at work and Hrithik Roshan, and Kiara Advani front and centre in a roles that promise both action and aching emotion, this track is expected to set the tone for what could be the most memorable love story in the Spy Universe yet.
