Over 120 student delegates from top schools across India unite to debate critical national and international challenges under the theme “One Voice for World Peace.”
CHANDIGARH — The Lawrence School, Sanawar inaugurated the dynamic Sanawar Model United Nations (SNAMUN 2026) on Friday. The three-day event features the central theme, “One Voice for World Peace.” A colorful cultural program marked the opening ceremony, celebrating India’s rich artistic traditions alongside an inspiring international vision.
This flagship edition of SNAMUN 2026 brings together more than 120 passionate student delegates. Participants represent ten premier educational institutions across India. These include Mayo College Girls (Ajmer), Mayo College (Ajmer), Yadavindra Public School (Patiala), Pinegrove School (Dharampur), Roots Country School (Panchkula), The British Co-Ed High School (Patiala), Daly College (Indore), Vidya Devi Jindal School (Hisar), and host institution The Lawrence School (Sanawar).
Delegates will tackle pressing national and international matters across five specialized committees:
- UNGA (United Nations General Assembly)
- UNSC (United Nations Security Council)
- ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council)
- Lok Sabha
- HSC (Historical Security Council)
Meanwhile, committee agendas push students to address complex historical and modern conflicts. Key topics include the Iranian Revolution, global immigration policies, examination paper leaks, and strategies to curb online hate speech. Therefore, students must rely on active diplomacy, constructive dialogue, and consensus-building to reach meaningful solutions.
Guest of Honour Professor Jasteena Dhillon, a distinguished Barrister and Solicitor from the University of Toronto, officially opened the event. During her keynote speech, she highlighted principled diplomacy and global cooperation.
“Young leaders play a vital role in building a far more peaceful world order,” noted Professor Dhillon as she encouraged students to think globally.
School Headmaster Ruchi Pradhan Datta warmly welcomed all visiting delegations. She urged students to look beyond formal debate during their sessions.
“Embrace this conference as an opportunity not merely to debate, but to listen, collaborate, and develop solutions that genuinely transcend differences,” stated Headmaster Datta.
Consequently, delegates will refine their skills in public speaking, active negotiation, and critical analysis over the next two days. Ultimately, SNAMUN 2026 empowers young minds to tackle the complex geopolitical challenges of our modern world.
