Youth Sports: BJP Sports Cell Chandigarh Launches Under-19 Touch Rugby Tournament

The event in Dhanas brings together 250 young athletes under the inspiring motto “One Team, One Dream, One Nation.” This grassroots initiative aims to boost athletic participation and foster leadership skills among rural youth. CHANDIGARH — The BJP Sports Cell Chandigarh officially launched an exciting Under-19 Touch Rugby Tournament on Wednesday. Held at the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 14 (West), Dhanas, the sports initiative explicitly aims to cultivate a vibrant sports culture among rural youth. In addition, the event provides a competitive platform for young talent to excel. The tournament features separate competitions for boys and girls. Remarkably, a total of 20 teams are participating, bringing together approximately 250 enthusiastic players. Organizers are conducting the matches under a structured league-cum-knockout format, adhering strictly to official Under-19 age category rules. BJP Chandigarh State President Jatinder Pal Malhotra inaugurated the tournament as the Chief Guest, while Hari Om Verma from the Rotary Club Chandigarh attended as the Guest of Honour. To support the athletes, organizers distributed event T-shirts and provided healthy refreshments after the matches. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sports have received unprecedented encouragement in India,” Malhotra stated during his opening address. Furthermore, he emphasized that the BJP remains deeply committed to creating sports opportunities for rural youth. He also highlighted how discipline and teamwork contribute directly to nation-building. Meanwhile, the opening day delivered highly competitive matchups. In the girls’ division, Chandigarh United secured a dominant 35–0 victory over All About Rugby Club-A, while the Rising Star Club defeated Velocity FC 15–0. In the boys’ division, All About Rugby Club-A narrowly defeated K.F.C. Club with a score of 10–5. According to tournament organizers, the matches will continue until June 19. Ultimately, this initiative by the BJP Sports Cell serves as a significant step toward connecting local youth with national pride through healthy, constructive athletic competition.
