Protesters at Sector-17 Plaza condemned political opposition to the historic women’s reservation bill. The participants called the movement a vital step toward true gender equality in India.

CHANDIGARH – Hundreds of women filled the Sector-17 Plaza in Chandigarh today for a massive “Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra.” Various social organizations and NGOs led the march to show strong support for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Consequently, the city center echoed with patriotic slogans and a vibrant display of unity.
Participants marched while holding the national tricolor and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” They aimed to send a clear message to political parties opposing the women’s reservation bill. Furthermore, the protesters labeled such opposition as a direct insult to female empowerment across the nation.

BJP Chandigarh State President Jitender Pal Malhotra joined the rally to show his solidarity. He stated, “The Bharatiya Janata Party remains committed to the dignity and safety of every woman.” Additionally, he emphasized that this Act will significantly strengthen female participation in the Indian democratic process.
State General Secretaries Ramveer Bhatti and Sanjeev Rana also attended the event. Meanwhile, Media Incharge Ravi Rawat praised the high turnout as a sign of rising social awareness. Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi and former mayors Sarbjit Kaur and Harpreet Kaur Babla shared these sentiments during the walk.

Mahila Morcha State General Secretary Priya Paswan delivered a powerful address during the gathering. She noted, “Today’s women recognize their rights and are determined to secure them.” Moreover, she argued that the new Act provides a vital identity and direction for the next generation of leaders.
The padyatra concluded with a collective resolution among the participants. They vowed to continue fighting for their dignity and legal rights. Therefore, the event served as a strong reminder that the women of Chandigarh remain united, aware, and politically active.
