Malayali creators slam Param Sundari for stereotypes, makers accused of silencing dissent

The much-anticipated Hindi romantic film Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, has sparked a wave of outrage among Malayali content creators. Several creators have voiced strong objections to the film’s portrayal of Kerala culture—and now accuse the film’s makers of silencing dissent after critical posts were removed from Instagram. In her now-deleted video, she asked, “Women in Kerala do not walk around wearing jasmine flowers and dancing Mohiniyattam.” The video was removed after Instagram flagged it due to a copyright claim by Maddock Films. Menon shared a screenshot of the takedown notice and ironically quipped, “Happy Independence Day to everyone who has a voice.” Undeterred, she re-uploaded the video while expressing her frustration that a Hindi actor was chosen to represent a Malayali character. She asked, “What’s the problem with employing a proper Malayali actor? Are we less talented? This does not happen in Kerala. We don’t wear jasmine flowers around or do Mohiniyattam in offices and homes.” She further suggested simplifying pronunciation challenges by saying, “simply use Trivandrum instead of Thiruvananthapuram – we’ll be satisfied.” Another content creator, Vedangi, echoed this criticism and leveled accusations against the film’s team. In a new video, she stated, “The team behind this movie is currently suppressing all Malayali creators. Several creators have complained about this. Instead of conducting a thorough study, they chose to capitalise on Kerala’s culture. The portrayal is extremely out of touch and disrespectful.” She also emphasized that their critiques fall within fair use under Section 52 of the Copyright Act, arguing, “We are free to express our criticism. However, every Mallu creator who mocked the trailer has received copyright infringement notices. This is silence, pure and simple. You may have cast or dubbed a Malayali actress. I think silencing us was worthwhile.” This backlash adds another layer to the controversy surrounding Param Sundari, following earlier discontent from the Christian community over a romantic sequence filmed in a church. The community had called for the removal of that scene from the film’s song. Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, best known for his memorable role as a college professor in the iconic film 3 Idiots, passed away on Monday in Thane, Maharashtra, at the age of 91. As per reports, the actor was admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane due to health complications. The exact cause of his death has not been revealed, but reports suggest he had been recently hospitalised due to age-related health issues. He served as a captain in the Indian Army, later worked as a professor, and then took up a corporate role with Indian Oil Corporation, where he spent nearly 25 years before retiring in 1992. Remarkably, he entered Bollywood at the age of 44, where he went on to become one of the most recognizable character actors in Indian cinema. Over his career, Potdar appeared in more than 125 films and nearly 100 television serials. His dignified presence and versatile portrayals—often as professors, doctors, judges, or father figures—made him a household name. His dialogue “Kehna kya chahte ho” from 3 Idiots became iconic, gaining cult popularity among fans and internet users alike. His notable films include Tezaab, Parinda, Rangeela, Vaastav, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Dabangg 2, and Ventilator. Yet, he hasn’t gone abroad for the same for his films like Devdas (2002), Black (2005), Saawariya (2007), Guzaarish (2010), Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015), Padmaavat (2018) and Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022). Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1998) was the last film for which he travelled abroad, to Hungary (depicted in the film as Italy), to shoot a crucial sequence of the second half.” The source continued, “But for Love & War, there’s a requirement of a foreign location. Hence, the filmmaker travelled to Rome, Italy, for a recce earlier this month. The film is expected to be shot in the Italian capital and maybe, a few more places in Europe, later this year.” As per reports, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be shooting big face-off sequences between Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal this month. The report further stated that around 100 days of shooting were completed until July and 90 more days of filming are left. Love & War is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2026, on Ramzan Eid. It reunites Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Ranbir Kapoor after nearly 18 years. Ranbir debuted in SLB’s Saawariya. Meanwhile, Alia had worked with the blockbuster director in his last film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. As for Vicky Kaushal, this is his first outing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar shoot halted as over 100 crew members fall sick in Leh: Report

At least 120 crew members working on Ranveer Singh’s forthcoming film Dhurandhar have fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning during the shoot in Leh district of Ladakh, forcing the production to pause. The incident occurred on August 17 while filming at Pathar Sahib. “Over 100 workers of a Bollywood film crew were hospitalised in Leh after a suspected case of food poisoning late Sunday evening,” officials told Mid-Day. There are rumours suggesting that a few individuals also suffered cardiac-related complications.” Food samples have been collected and sent for further analysis to pinpoint the root cause of the contamination. Meanwhile, the team has suspended shooting temporarily. Dhurandhar marks Ranveer Singh’s first collaboration with director Aditya Dhar. While the storyline remains largely under wraps, the teaser hints at an origin story steeped in betrayal, courage, and a hidden war fought by unnamed figures in the shadows. The film also features an impressive ensemble, including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Reports suggest Ranveer and Aditya are already planning another project, slated to begin once Don 3 wraps. Dhurandhar is currently scheduled to worldwide theatrical release on December 5, 2025. Addressing controversy involving Gopal Chandra Mukherjee—whose grandson Santanu Mukherjee has registered an FIR claiming the film portrays his grandfather as a “butcher”—Agnihotri clarified that the character is “an inspired character and not central to the plot.” He added, “I will not go into his history. So, for the first time, Prabhas is working on multiple projects simultaneously.” On the current shooting status of The Raja Saab, the source adds, “About 20 percent of the shooting still remains. The untitled film is described as a coming-of-age story set on a vibrant Indian college campus. Alia Bhatt joins hands with Amazon Prime Video for young adult drama: Report Directed by Sreeti Mukerji, who has previously assisted Ayan Mukerji on Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Brahmastra, the film will mark her directorial debut. Sources revealed to the publication that the narrative will be “in the zone of Wake Up Sid, but from a girl’s point of view,” offering a refreshing perspective on youth, aspirations, and personal growth. Filming is expected to commence in October. This marks Alia Bhatt’s first feature-film project with Amazon Prime Video, following her role as executive producer on Richie Mehta’s acclaimed crime drama series Poacher. Speaking about her journey as a producer, Alia had earlier said, “Producing content allows me to tell the stories I believe in and champion fresh voices in filmmaking.” Alia first ventured into production with Netflix’s Darlings in 2022. Tiger Shroff’s co stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonam Bajwa and Harnaaz Sandhu unleashed from Baaghi 4 Following the much-anticipated teaser release, the new character posters hint at the intense and gritty journey ahead. Baaghi 4 promises a cinematic experience that blends a raw love story with high-stakes action and unflinching drama. Written by acclaimed producer-writer Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by action specialist A. Harsha, Baaghi 4 features Tiger Shroff in what is touted to be his most intense role yet.
