EXCLUSIVE: Delayed Bengali film Dhumketu gives tough fight to War 2 in West Bengal; sells a whopping 18,000 tickets

The industry is gearing up for the clash between the Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer War 2 and the Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie. As it happens during clashes, issues have come up with regards to show sharing. However, in the state of West Bengal, Bengali film Dhumketu has come out of the syllabus and has given a tough fight to both the films. EXCLUSIVE: Delayed Bengali film Dhumketu gives tough fight to War 2 in West Bengal; sells a whopping 18,000 tickets A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Dhumketu also releases on the same day as War 2 and Coolie, that is, Thursday, August 14. It was known that there was tremendous excitement to see the film. Yet, its makers are surprised by the advance ticket sales. Several shows across the state, particularly in Kolkata, are fast-filling or nearly sold out.” The trade source added, “Dhumketu has sold nearly 18,000 tickets as of Monday, August 11, 9:00 am and the number is increasing with each passing hour. Meanwhile, War 2 has sold around 5,000 tickets in West Bengal.” War 2 is distributed and produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and they have asked cinemas across the Hindi-speaking belt for maximum showcasing or 100% showcasing in single-screen, two-screen and three-screen properties. The trade source continued, “But YRF seems to have made an exception in West Bengal, looking at the response to Dhumketu’s advance booking and allowed some theatres for show-sharing. YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra always takes a pragmatic approach and he understands the hype for the Bengali film along with that for War 2. Hence, the exception was made.” In single-screens of Kolkata like Prachi, Asoka and Menoka, War 2 has been allotted 3 shows while Dhumketu has been allotted 1 show. In Jayanti and Binodini, Dhumketu has been given two shows. In Navina and Uma Talkies, two shows, however, have been allotted to both Dhumketu and Coolie’s Hindi version. As for the iconic Priya cinema, the management, from August 14, will play 3 shows of War 2, 1 show of Dhumketu and the morning show has been allotted to the animated blockbuster Mahavatar Narsimha. Surprisingly, both shows of Dhumketu in Navina and the afternoon show at Binodini are already sold out, though the release is three days away. Dhumketu stars popular Bengali actor Dev along with Subhashree Ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and others. Readers will be surprised to know that the shooting of the film began nearly ten years ago, in October 2015 and was completed in January 2017. The film then faced certain issues, after which it was finally revived earlier this year. A Bengali film industry insider commented, “Usually, delayed films look dated and their appeal diminishes over time. But with Dhumketu, that hasn’t happened at all. The audience is well aware that its filming was completed 9-10 years ago, but still, they can’t wait to see it. This is truly historic.” Also Read: EXCLUSIVE: No splitting of shows in single screens, 2-screen cinemas to play 12 shows, 10-screen multiplexes to play 54 shows – YRF’s release strategy for Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer War 2 REVEALED More Pages: War 2 Box Office Collection BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama. Udaipur Files hits theatres after Supreme Court greenlight: Report

Director Bharat Shrinate’s Udaipur Files finally hit theatres across India on Friday, August 8, following months of controversy and a prolonged legal battle. Udaipur Files hits theatres after Supreme Court greenlight: Report The film is based on the Kanhaiyalal murder case of 2022, an incident that shocked the nation. Trouble began soon after the teaser’s release, when Kanhaiyalal’s family raised objections and filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court. They argued that the film was causing them “mental agony” and could “spoil social harmony.” This led to a temporary stay on the release. In July 2025, the Supreme Court overturned the stay, ruling that making a film on a true incident is not illegal, as long as it does not violate constitutional limits. The court’s decision cleared the way for the movie to be certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and released for the public. Originally titled Gyanvapi Files: A Tailor’s Murder Story, the film was initially scheduled for release on July 11, 2025. However, its debut was postponed due to the legal proceedings. The Supreme Court ultimately directed its release on August 8. Produced by Amit Jani and featuring Vijay Raaz in the lead role, Udaipur Files brings to screen a dramatized depiction of one of the most disturbing crimes in recent years. The project has drawn attention not only for its sensitive subject matter but also for the legal precedent reaffirming filmmakers’ right to portray real-life incidents within constitutional boundaries. Vir Das REVEALS that he was offered Rs. 8 lakhs for his role in Love Aaj Kal: "I was the most EXPENSIVE background extra in history"

Vir Das had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day where he spoke about many aspects, including his Bollywood career. At one point, he opened up on what made him take an inconsequential role in the Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Love Aaj Kal (2009). Vir Das REVEALS that he was offered Rs. 8 lakhs for his role in Love Aaj Kal: “I was the most EXPENSIVE background extra in history” Vir Das said, “I really needed cash as I was very cash-strapped. That’s when I was offered Love Aaj Kal. I was informed that I was required for just one scene and would be relegated to the background in other scenes. I said, ‘I’ll take it. I need money right now’. Director Imtiaz Ali, who’s a very nice guy and who had seen my stand-up act before, to his credit, warned me, ‘Vir, I am telling you. This is not much (of a role). This is just 1 or 2 scenes on paper and then you’ll be around’.” Explaining what his role was in the movie, Vir revealed, “If you watch, I have one scene in the movie and in the song ‘Can We Twist’, there’s a dude dancing on this side of Saif and there’s a dude dancing on that side of Saif. One is me and the other is Kavi Shastri, who’s now my co-director. We met on the sets of Love Aaj Kal.” When asked how much he was paid for it, Vir replied, “I was the most expensive background extra in history (laughs). I got put up in London and I got paid Rs. 8 lakhs, man!” He continued, “One of the two girls in Illuminati Productions was like, ‘We should have Vir in the movie’. So, somebody batted for me, after which Imtiaz was nice. Meanwhile, I had given auditions for Delhi Belly (2011) and Badmaash Company (2010) before I left to shoot for Love Aaj Kal in London. I was in London and was wondering, ‘What am I doing here? I am like the bouquet in the background’ (laughs)! Then my agent called me at 3 am and told me that I had bagged Delhi Belly. He told me, ‘I am going to get you a great deal’. I replied, ‘Do not negotiate. Whatever they offer, just take it’. I came straight out of Love Aaj Kal and shot for Delhi Belly after two months.” Also Read: SHOCKING: Vir Das on how life changed after ‘Two Indias’ controversy: “My phone was off for four months. SHOCKING: Vir Das on how life changed after 'Two Indias' controversy: "My phone was off for four months. There was no work…I booked a flight to London and had no memory of it. I YELLED in the plane…"

Vir Das faced a major controversy in 2021 when his video, ‘I Come From Two Indias,’ received a lot of hate from a section of netizens. During an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, the actor-comedian opened up like never before on shocking changes in his life after this episode. SHOCKING: Vir Das on how life changed after ‘Two Indias’ controversy: “My phone was off for four months. There was no work…I booked a flight to London and had no memory of it. I YELLED in the plane…” Vir explained why he shifted to Goa and why he decided to return to Mumbai, “You can’t write stand-up in Goa. For that, you need to know the pulse of the audience. In Goa, it seems like the day is 37 hours long! Time slows down. What I like about Goans is that everybody, who shows up from the outside, is running from something (smiles). They are trying to deal with something in life and hence, they have come and settled in Goa. Goans are non-judgmental about it. They have seen people in all sorts of tragedies. But then I realized it was time to stop running and come back.” When asked what he was running away from, Vir replied, “Dude, I had no work for a year and a half after the ‘Two Indias’ controversy. My phone wasn’t ringing. I thought I’d rather be in Goa, work on myself and write.” Vir Das explained, “There were zero phone calls. If it did ring, it wasn’t a happy phone call (laughing). It would be like someone shouting, ‘Kahan hai tu? Tujhe dhund lunga main’. After that, my phone was off for four months. There was no work. Then, I worked on Vir Das: Landing. It jumpstarted everything.” The Netflix special won the Emmy Awards and gave a huge boost to Vir Das’ career. Vir Das then shared another horrifying story which happened after the ‘Two Indias’ controversy, “I woke up on a flight that I thought was from Singapore to Mumbai, but it was London-bound. I had put up a last-minute show in London; we had sold a thousand tickets. I myself changed the flight, bought my ticket and checked myself in. And then I woke up on the flight and for two hours, I had no idea how I got on that flight. It was my 186th show that year.” Vir added, “I was told that the flight was heading to London. I yelled, ‘No, this flight is to Mumbai’. When a brown man with a beard starts yelling about a new destination for the plane, everybody knows that the situation needs to be handled (laughs)! But for the life of me, I couldn’t figure it out for two hours. And you can’t feel bad for being disoriented in the first class (laughs).” He further said, “I had to go to my therapist and explained her that I have blocked out 72 hours. She told me, ‘You’ve been on the road for way too long’. This was in the post ‘Two Indias’ phase where (performing in) India wasn’t an option. That’s how I ended up doing 186 shows abroad.” Also Read: Vir Das shares hilarious in-flight encounter with Rishi Kapoor after the latter had a fight with Neetu Kapoor BOLLYWOOD NEWS – LIVE UPDATES Catch us for latest Bollywood News, New Bollywood Movies update, Box office collection, New Movies Release , Bollywood News Hindi, Entertainment News, Bollywood Live News Today & Upcoming Movies 2025 and stay updated with latest hindi movies only on Bollywood Hungama. Kartik Aaryan's team issues clarification after FWICE sends notice over his alleged association with Pakistani organized event

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has sent an official letter to actor Kartik Aaryan, raising concerns over his alleged association with an event reportedly organized by individuals from Pakistan. The letter cites a violation of guidelines issued by both FWICE and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which discourage participation in events involving Pakistani organizers due to strained diplomatic relations. Kartik Aaryan’s team issues clarification after FWICE sends notice over his alleged association with Pakistani organized event In their communication, FWICE emphasized that the film industry must refrain from any engagements that could indirectly support or legitimize cross-border participation involving Pakistani entities. The letter serves as a caution to Aaryan and reiterates the federation’s previously stated position, advising all Indian artists to avoid any professional or promotional involvement with Pakistan-based events or organizers. The controversy stems from promotional material for an upcoming international event that featured Kartik Aaryan’s name and image, suggesting his participation. However, in response to FWICE’s letter and the circulating event promotions, the actor’s team promptly released an official statement denying any involvement. “Kartik Aaryan is not associated with this event in any capacity. He has never made an official announcement about participating in this event. We have contacted the organizers and requested to remove all promotional materials featuring his name and image,” the statement from his team clarified. FWICE has taken the clarification into account but has maintained its stance on strict compliance with national and industry-level directives. The federation also warned event organizers against using Indian celebrities’ names without consent, calling it misleading and potentially damaging. The situation is being closely monitored by industry bodies to prevent further instances of such misrepresentation. As the film inches toward the Rs. 300 crore club in India, Suri chose to step away from conventional Bollywood celebrations and instead organized a food distribution drive in Mumbai. High Court rejects Kangana Ranaut’s pleas to quash defamation case over farmers’ protest

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday rejected a criminal petition filed by actor‑turned‑politician Kangana Ranaut, thereby allowing a defamation case initiated against her to proceed to trial. Ranaut had sought dismissal of both the underlying complaint and the summoning order issued by a Bathinda court under Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. High Court rejects Kangana Ranaut’s pleas to quash defamation case over farmers’ protest The legal action stems from a retweet shared by Ranaut during the 2020–21 farmers’ protests. In her post she wrote, “Ha ha ha she is the same dadi who featured in Time magazine for being the most powerful Indian…. And she is available in 100 rupees. Pakistani jurno’s have hijacked international PR for India in an embarrassing way. We need our own people to speak for us internationally.” During the hearing under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the bench of Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya carefully analysed the evidence and arguments. The court stated, “There are specific allegations against the petitioner, who is a celebrity, that false and defamatory imputations by her in the retweet have dented the respondent’s reputation and lowered her in her own estimation, as also in the eyes of others. Therefore, filing of the complaint to vindicate her rights cannot be termed mala fide Justice Dahiya further noted, “The order has been passed after due application of mind to the facts of the case, by examining the preliminary evidence in the light of relevant provisions of law.” Observers highlighted that Ranaut’s defence hinged on the argument that the retweet lacked malice and was shared in good faith—without awareness of any factual inaccuracy. However, the High Court dismissed this rationale, rejecting that she was automatically protected under the Ninth or Tenth Exceptions to Section 499 IPC, which pertain to statements made in good faith for public good or cautioning others. Significantly, the court also pointed out that Ranaut had not tendered any apology or acknowledgement of the mistake after being informed that the person in the image was mistakenly identified—and not the “Shaheen Bano” or the “Time magazine” figure as implied. The Bathinda magistrate had previously issued a summons on February 22, 2022, after preliminary evidence satisfied him that a prima facie case of defamation existed. The High Court affirmed that determination, noting that the magistrate “duly applied mind to the material on record” before issuing process.
