The winners of the 71st National Film Awards were officially announced on Friday at a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. The romantic family drama, known for its vibrant storytelling and strong ensemble cast, won the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The category celebrates films that resonate widely with audiences while upholding cinematic and emotional integrity. In addition, the film also bagged the award for Best Choreography for the energetic and visually striking number ‘Dhindhora Baje Re’, choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. The elaborate dance sequence, featuring leads Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, was praised for its grandeur, fusion of classical aesthetics, and impeccable execution. The winners of the 71st National Film Awards were unveiled at the National Media Centre in New Delhi on Friday, honouring cinematic excellence for films certified in 2023. Among the major winners, Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery stood out, clinching the prestigious Best Hindi Film award. Almighty Motion Picture has completed production on its drama series Made in India – A Titan Story, which explores the origins of one of India’s well-known consumer brands and the people who helped build it. Naseeruddin Shah wraps up period saga Made in India, based on Ratan Tata The series, produced by Almighty Motion Picture, is based on the book Titan: Inside India’s Most Successful Consumer Brand by Vinay Kamath. It traces the journey of Titan from its beginnings within the Tata Group to becoming a well-known name in the Indian consumer market, highlighting the roles of J. R. D. Tata and Xerxes Desai along the way. Legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah leads the cast as J. R. D. Tata, with Jim Sarbh portraying Xerxes Desai, Titan’s pioneering managing director. The ensemble also includes Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Lakshvir Saran, Kaveri Seth, Namita Dubey and Paresh Ganatra. Filmed on detailed sets and real locations in Mumbai, Lonavala, and Bangalore, the series also features rare access to the Titan Manufacturing Plant in Hosur and the Bombay House, the Tata Group’s headquarters. The expo has often been in the news, often because filmmakers use this platform to showcase exclusive glimpses of their films. This year will be no exception. For the 8th edition of the Big Cine Expo, which will be held in Chennai on August 19 and August 20, 2025, attendees will get a chance to check out assets of three upcoming exciting films. They’ll begin by unveiling the promo of their upcoming film, Nishaanchi. It is directed by Anurag Kashyap, produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh, backed by JAR Pictures and Flip Films and has Amazon MGM Studios India as the studio partner. The film marks the debut of Balasaheb Thackeray’s grandson Aaishvary Thackeray and also stars Monika Pawar, Vineet Kumar Singh, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and others. Then, Anurag will showcase the promo of Kennedy, his acclaimed film that has been awaiting release for a long time. With Anurag showcasing Kennedy‘s asset, there has been buzz that he’ll also announce its release date at this event as well. The film stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone and is produced by Ranjan Singh and Kabir Ahuja. It is backed by Zee Studios, Good Bad Films and Flip Films. Lastly, Anurag and Ranjan will exhibit a promo of the acclaimed movie Little Thomas, starring Rasika Dugal and Gulshan Devaiah. On the same day at Big Cine Expo, Denzil Dias – VP & Managing Director – India Theatrical, Warner Bros. Discovery, will similarly show exciting glimpses from the upcoming films of Warner Bros and Universal Studios. Even for this session, recording will strictly not be allowed. This is not the first time that the Big Cine Expo will showcase an exclusive glimpse of an upcoming film. In 2023, Boney Kapoor showed some scenes from his acclaimed film Maidaan (2024) while in 2022, exciting scenes from the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra (2022) were shown to the attendees. The superstar has opted for a pay-per-view model, that is, one can pay Rs. 100 film to rent the film. Discussions about such a mode were going on even before the film was out. Aamir was asked about it, but he denied any such plans to many journalists. To all these reports, Aamir Khan, as a thoughtful gesture, apologized for lying. I wanted to protect the theatrical business. Meri shuruaat hui hai cinema se and I am very loyal to theatres. Hence, I’ll make all efforts to protect the theatrical business. Hence, while doing this experiment, we wanted to protect the theatres. As a result, I had to say that I am not bringing my film on YouTube. Woh mujhe kehna pada aur uske liye main maafi chahta hoon. Unfortunately, I had to lie. If I had not lied, mera jo sapna tha, woh wahin khatam ho jaata.” Aamir Khan’s decision to bring Sitaare Zameen Par in just six weeks of theatrical release has also raised eyebrows, especially when he often rejected the idea of a film releasing in 8 weeks on OTT. On this, he replied, “Pay-per-view model and subscription model mein zameen aasmaan ka farak hai. When I release my film after 8 weeks on a subscription model, a person who has bought a subscription to that OTT platform is not buying my film per se. He’s paying to access films available on that platform. After a few months, he’ll learn that my film is also available. He may or may not watch it. As a creative person, I’d like to take a thousand steps towards my audience. But I want my audience to take one step towards me. When we opt for a subscription model, we are, more or less, providing the film for free. Pay-per-view is the same model as the theatre. Theatre experience is different. You watch a film with 300-500 people. You laugh, cry and clap together. The theatre is equipped with Atmos sound. That is an experience and this is a different experience. In cinemas, viewers might feel more amazed. But on YouTube, viewers will have the option of convenience. Hence, it was my plan from the beginning to bring the film on YouTube at the end of its theatrical run.” Another journalist asked on the same lines and Aamir Khan said, “OTT is a totally different model. Let me make it clear that I have no objection to OTT platforms. But I don’t like the arrangement that the film has to release on OTT 8 weeks after release. Hence, I moved away from it. Aamir Khan explains why Sitaare Zameen Par can be rented and can’t be bought on YouTube; reveals that his older productions and that of father Tahir Hussain like Caravan, Anamika etc will also be available on his YouTube channel

The superstar has opted for a pay-per-view model, that is, one can pay Rs. 100 to rent the film. However, one can’t permanently own the film, as explained by Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan explains why Sitaare Zameen Par can be rented and can’t be bought on YouTube; reveals that his older productions and that of father Tahir Hussain like Caravan, Anamika etc will also be available on his YouTube channel Aamir said, “You can rent Sitaare Zameen Par for Rs. 100. Let me explain the technicality. Once you rent, the film, it will stay in your account for 30 days. Once you start viewing the film, you have 48 hours to complete the film.” This writer asked if one can pay more to buy the film, that is, have permanent access to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan explained, “We were wondering whether to do that or not. We realized that it’s better to take one step at a time. This is something new that we are doing. So, right now, we are only keeping the option of rent. As we go along and as we understand this part better, then we can start offering such options.” He also shared his other plans, “Aamir Khan Talkies is the platform where you’ll get to see films of Aamir Khan Productions like Lagaan, Dangal, Peepli [LIVE], Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Taare Zameen Par etc. On August 1, you’ll only get Sitaare Zameen Par. A week later, we’ll add more films. This way, the whole library of Aamir Khan Productions will be available on Aamir Khan Talkies. My father Tahir Hussain made movies like Caravan, Anamika etc. Those films will also be available on our YouTube channel.” He added, “Aamir Khan Talkies will have free content as well as pay-per-view stuff. I’d like to upload episodes of my TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. I’d not like to charge for it; it can be accessed for free.” He further stated, “I also want Aamir Khan Talkies to be a platform for new, emerging talent. REVEALED: Huma Qureshi looks menacing in the first look of Baby Die Do Die; also has a Badlapur connection

On July 12, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to inform about the contents of the teaser of Huma Qureshi’s upcoming film, Baby Do Die Do. Now, we bring to you the gritty first look of the action thriller. REVEALED: Huma Qureshi looks menacing in the first look of Baby Die Do Die; also has a Badlapur connection The first look consists of Huma Qureshi looking menacing as she stands on a rainy night holding an umbrella, dressed in an all-black rugged leather ensemble that complements her fierce expression with a white-coloured pigeon flying around. On top of the quirky title, the makers have also mentioned its relevance. Huma’s surname in the film is Karmarkar, which translates to ‘Do Die Do’. What’s also striking about the poster is that she’s standing at what appears to be a railway station that sounds similar to that of Badlapur. While the station’s name in Hindi is mentioned as ‘Vadalpur’, its English translation seems to be ‘Vadlapur’. It immediately brought back memories of the movie Badlapur (2015), starring Varun Dhawan. One of its most famous stills also features Varun standing in front of the Badlapur station nameboard. Incidentally, Huma also starred in the film in a crucial role along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak and Divya Dutta. It was directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan. The first look of Baby Do Die Do was sent by Huma to her fans on Instagram. The Badlapur connection makes one wonder if this is just a homage to her 2015 film? Or will Varun Dhawan appear in a cameo in the film? Only time will tell. Baby Do Die Do is produced by Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem under the banner of Saleem Siblings. The one-minute teaser focuses on Huma’s character and describes her as ‘1st desi female assassin’. Sonu Sood sends Rs 1.5 lakh to support late Fish Venkat’s family

Telugu actor and comedian Venkat Raj, popularly known as Fish Venkat, passed away on July 18 in Hyderabad due to complications related to kidney disease. He was 53 years old and had been undergoing dialysis while being treated in the ICU. His family had been appealing for financial assistance to cover the cost of a kidney transplant, which was estimated at around Rs 50 lakh. Unfortunately, Venkat passed away before the necessary funds could be raised. Sonu Sood sends Rs 1.5 lakh to support late Fish Venkat’s family Venkat had appeared in numerous Telugu films, including Adhurs, Gabbar Singh, Shivam, and Khaidi No 150. His final on-screen appearance was in the 2024 film Coffee with a Killer. Following the heartbreaking news, actor Sonu Sood extended his support to Venkat’s bereaved family. He promptly transferred Rs 1.50 lakh as a gesture of assistance and also personally spoke to Venkat’s wife and relatives over a phone call to offer his condolences. According to Sonu Sood’s team, he initially believed that Venkat was still hospitalized and had a chance of recovery. However, he was “shocked to know” that the actor had already passed away. As reported by Hindustan Times, Sonu personally spoke to Venkat’s wife and other family members over a phone call and assured them of his continued support whenever needed. Venkat’s wife, who was deeply touched by the kind gesture, expressed a sense of relief, especially since her husband had always admired Sonu Sood, Hindustan Times also reported. Earlier reports claimed that actor Prabhas had offered Rs 50 lakh for Venkat’s kidney transplant, but the family later clarified that they never received any such amount. “Some unknown person called us pretending to be Prabhas Anna’s assistant. We found out after that it was a fake call. He doesn’t even know something like this is happening. We have not received any financial help yet,” a family member told The Free Press Journal. Before Venkat’s passing, actors like Vishwak Sen and Pawan Kalyan had also reportedly come forward to assist. Pawan Kalyan was said to have donated a sum after learning about Venkat’s condition. Although the financial help was delayed, the support from the film fraternity, especially Sonu Sood, provided some solace to the family during this difficult period.
